PRISM 2.0 Proposed Training/Tutorial Outline

The following is an outline of the presentation/tutorial proposed for the XML2007 conference:

1. Original scope of PRISM

2. Changing publishing environment and PRISM’s reaction

3. The PRISM 2.0 specification

  • Handling of web, mobile, and multimedia content (New elements/Differentiating content origins)
  • General specification updates (XMP handling/Controlled vocabulary updates/New elements/Modified elements/Deprecated elements/Documentation updates)
  • Implementation (Offerings by PRISM working group – Cookbook or Individual tutorials/Planned and In-progress implementations – McGrawHill, Time Inc., U.S. News & World Report/Aggregator acceptance – LexisNexis)

4. Looking ahead to PRISM 2.1

  • Proposed additions/changes

5. Other PRISM Working Group initiatives

  • Other 2007 Charter Goals (Rights/Collaboration with IPTC)

Lee Vetten

Lee is a Publishing Technologies Specialist of Editorial Web Production at The McGraw-Hill Companies Business Information Group, where he is responsible for maintaining XML standards and automating production workflows of published content. Lee has been Co-Chair of the PRISM working Group for 3 years, and has worked to implement the PRISM standard throughout McGraw-Hill Construction, Aviation and Platts.
